Before you begin your close study, follow these three steps for each of your texts.
- Research and understand the text
- Form your opinion
- Link to the rubric
Select one text [e.g. Drover’s wife] to complete with your tutor
Complete remaining texts at home or in the workshop
Form your opinion
In your assessments, you are expected to form a strong thesis (your argument) to the unseen question. Many students struggle with forming their argument when they have not engaged with the text in a meaningful way.
- Did you like the story? Why/ Why not.
- What is the purpose of the text?
- What themes emerge from the texts?
- How does the context influence the purpose of the text?
- What are the perspectives explored and how is it presented?
- How is the reader positioned? Is the reader involved or as an outsider who is encouraged to evaluate the characters/situation?
