1. Composer’s Context

Before you begin your close study, follow these three steps for each of your texts.

  1. Research and understand the text
  2. Form your opinion
  3. Link to the rubric

Select one text [e.g. Drover’s wife] to complete with your tutor

Complete remaining texts at home or in the workshop

Research and understand the text

  1. Date of composition
  2. What is the form of the text
    • Poem
    • Film
    • Prose

4. Overview of the text

  1. What is the text about? Write a summary and comment on the structure of the text.
  2. How many characters are there? Describe the characters.
  3. Where is the text set?

Physical setting/ Geographical Setting

How is it represented in the text? Where can we see it?

Historical/Political Setting: (to do with political/government)

How is it represented in the text? Where can we see it?

Social Setting: (to do with social values/societal norms of the time)

How is it represented in the text? Where can we see it?

Cultural/Religious concepts

How is it represented in the text? Where can we see it?
