Before you begin your close study, follow these three steps for each of your texts.

  1. Research and understand the text
  2. Form your opinion
  3. Link to the rubric

  1. What individual identities are presented?
    • Name the character, identity the ‘identity’, think about ‘how’ the identity is presented
  2. What collective identities are presented?
    • Name the character, identity the ‘identity’, think about ‘how’ the identity is presented
  3. What are some cultural/social identity markers in the text?
  4. What is the significance of language in the text?
  5. Identify the ‘cultural worlds’ in the text.
  6. What cultural perspectives are presented?
  7. How does the text affirm, ignore, reveal, challenge or disrupt cultural prejudices?
